Eugene’s downtown riverfront is transforming into the community’s long-held vision of a vibrant, active, and accessible riverfront district filled with community destinations. The redevelopment of this area has been a part of the community’s vision for decades, reinforced through numerous public engagement opportunities over several years.
After over a decade of planning, reorganizing tax codes and navigating red tape, a new neighborhood is being built from the ground up along the riverfront.
The River District is the culmination of years of work by the city, private developers and the Eugene Water & Electric Board to create a new economic and residential center in Eugene.
Up to 1,000 new homes are expected to be built along the riverfront in Eugene. It’s all part of the riverfront revitalization program that’s been in discussion for decades.
EUGENE, Ore – There’s already a lot of activity at the downtown riverfront in Eugene, thanks in part to a new park completed a few months ago.
Officials with the city say they have a number of other projects lined up for the new riverfront. They said multi-family housing is already under construction. Officials also believe that, when completed, The River District will host a number of restaurants and shops for people to swing by. A plaza is currently being designed and construction is expected to begin in 2024. Chief architect Emily Proudfoot says it’s been helped along by feedback from the community
The River District neighborhood officially acquired its next two land parcels. The neighborhood’s first apartment building, scheduled for completion in 2024, will have four stories and 95 units.
